Winter Scenes from Ithaca

Twenty-Seven Reasons Why My Man is The Man! Happy 27th Birthday, Adam!

(1) You love me (for me)! As much as we laugh about the ways that I am Amish and you are not, no one else loves me, for me, better than you.

(2) You can always get un-lost! And when you are lost you get funnier and funnier.

(3) You work so hard to be open for me, to unveil your heart to me.

(4) You are so thoughtful to me (and simultaneously green) and do the most amazing job of writing me love notes on the most curious and creative recycled cards and envelopes!

(5) You love others genuinely, from your heart. You care about people abroad and domestically who are in need of encouragement.

(6) Your vocabulary includes the word “somethin’-somethin’”!

(7) You understand the old-fashioned value of honor.

(8) You have worked hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. (Philippians 2:12)

(9) You leave me the kindest voice messages that I get to replay over and over again. “Hi Sarah, this is Adam,” those words put butterflies in my heart!

(10) You are so good at being understanding and asking for and granting forgiveness.

(11) You are such a good story teller!

(12) You have the perseverance of an old John Deere B; you don’t give up and you just keep faithfully driving ahead.

(13) Your ministry preserves the orthodox faith and gospel in a relevant, loving and life-changing way.

(14) Your baritone laugh is matched by none.

(15) You are polite, respectful, organized and neat.

(16) You waited silently for me for twenty-eight months, plowing an entire field with a spoon to win my heart.

(17) Your work ethic demonstrates that you honor your occupation and that you view your occupation vocationally.

(18) You are visionary and also strategic; you have well-defined goals and you know about accomplishment!

(19) You think that 24 hours with me is worth a lot of plane rides and weather delays and airport delays.

(20) You are good at building trust through shared activity and relationship – you are going to be such an awesome dad.

(21) Did I mention that you are one handsome dude?

(22) You can assume leadership in a confusing situation and bring about peaceful resolution.

(23) You rightly prioritize this world’s possessions, realizing both the futility of pursuing wealth and the importance of stewardship.

(24) You understand paradox and walk by faith through the pilgrimage of this life.

(25) You embrace personal change – your heart is teachable, accountable and hungry to learn the way of wisdom.

(26) You are skilled at expressing yourself with confidence.

(27) You run your race in such a way as to win! (1 Corinthians 9:24)

Happy 27th Birthday, Adam!

Mom's Meatball and Sauce Recipe

Snow days are perfect occasions to learn old recipes from Mom! Today I learned to make my mom's great meatball and sauce recipe. I took some notes and am providing them below for posterity! - Sarah

Sauce:

Place 2 tablespoons of oil in a large pot and stir in 4 large cloves of crushed garlic. Turn the heat to high and cook the garlic and oil, being careful not to make the garlic too crisp. Add 3 (28 oz) cans of Tuttorosso Crushed Tomatoes and Basil, 2 tablespoons of basil and 1 1/2 tablespoons of oregano. Simmer for fifteen minutes on medium-low heat.

Meatballs:

Mix 2 pounds of Jimmy Dean Regular Sausage, 2 pounds of lean ground beef, 1/2 teaspoon of Adobo seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon of pepper, 1 1/2 cups of bread crumbs (Italian Seasoned), 3 eggs, 1 cup of milk and 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese.

Form meatballs into small round balls and place directly into the sauce. Let sauce simmer on medium-low heat for ten hours.

Mom's Granola Recipe
